Turf Geeks started with one guy who became obsessed with turfgrass at 14 years old. Today, we’re building a team around that same passion for better turf, better service, and taking care of people the right way.

Jason Clarkson — Chief Turf Geek & Founder

Jason’s turf story started at just 14 years old when he landed his first job at a local golf course. He quickly fell in love with turfgrass and knew this was going to be more than just a summer job.

In high school, Jason worked on golf courses and athletic fields. When he tried out for the football team, his coach pulled him aside and told him:

“JC, you’re not meant to play football — you’re meant to take care of our turf.”  Turns out, he was right.

After high school, Jason moved to Kansas City and earned his degree in Turfgrass Management from Longview Community College. From there, he worked his way through the golf course industry:

Irrigation Technician — Longview Lake Golf Course, Kansas City
Assistant Superintendent — The Club at Porto Cima, Lake of the Ozarks
Golf Course Superintendent — Lebanon Country Club, Lebanon, Missouri
Golf Course Superintendent — The Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake of the Ozarks

Along the way, Jason learned from some of the best in the industry, including his mentor Paul Naudet, while developing the turf knowledge and attention to detail that would eventually become the foundation of Turf Geeks.  After leaving the golf course industry, Jason spent another 12 years in professional lawn care before deciding it was time to build something of his own.

With the support of his wife, Megan, and stepson, Easton, Turf Geeks was born.

Today, Jason serves as our Chief Turf Geek, oversees Turf Geeks, and has never left his golf course roots behind. He currently provides turf care for MariMack Golf Course in Kearney, Missouri, bringing decades of professional turf experience to both golf course turf and the lawns we care for every day.

Pat Stringfield — Director of Operations & Senior Turf Geek

Pat is a huge part of what keeps Turf Geeks moving forward every day.

As our Director of Operations and Senior Turf Geek, Pat helps oversee our field operations, quality control, technician training, scheduling, and most importantly, making sure our clients receive the level of service Turf Geeks promises.  Pat brings hands-on experience, leadership, and a strong attention to detail to our team. He also helps train the next generation of Turf Geeks so that as our company grows, our standards never change.  For Pat, it’s not about getting through a route as quickly as possible. It’s about looking at the lawn, identifying problems, communicating with the homeowner, and making sure every property is treated like it matters.

Zach Berry — Turf Geek

Zach is one of the newest members of the Turf Geeks team and represents exactly how we want to grow this company.  Every Turf Geek goes through hands-on training in turf identification, weed identification, application techniques, product knowledge, customer communication, and the Turf Geeks way of taking care of a lawn.  Zach works alongside our experienced team learning not just what we apply, but why we apply it.  Because we don't want someone simply treating your lawn.  We want a Turf Geek taking care of it.
